You would like to use a GUI to configure printer(s) or have a scanner or other device that requires a desktop program to configure and the machine is headlessĭownload the client software and install:.You run your HDA headless (no monitor) and like to still use a desktop in it.You would like a Linux desktop to the HDA remotely. You install Clients only on the other devices. Raspbian Wheezy you only install the Server ie tightvncserver I installed a VNC viewer on my Ipad and connected successfully to the Pi but the same result this lends me to believe that the problem is on the Pi side rather than in iOS or with the settings in VNC server for Vista. Unfortunately, I was confronted with what I call the "Grey screen of death", where the connection appears fine and steady but instead of a beautiful Raspbian screen I see thick grey blocks. After some inital problems (mostly down to failing to include ":1" after the IP address on the Vista side, thanks to another thread here for helping me with that) connected to the Pi. No problems with connecting to the Pi so I stepped up to Tight VNC server and viewer on the laptop with the Pi's corresponding installation.

OK then - my intention is to use the Pi in a headless way primarily so I downloaded PuTTY initially for my Vista laptop. I've had my Pi for a few days and really enjoying it, reminds me of the early '80s kit computers and writing descision-tree dungeons for them
